The house has passed legislation that includes a path for the legalization of undocumented immigrants. It’s a part of Biden’s Build Back Better plan and moved to the Senate for approval.

This program is the largest mass legalization in US history, but it is not a path to citizenship. About 7 million of 11 million undocumented immigrants would be able to apply for a work permit, permission to travel abroad, and a driving license.

This program will benefit undocumented migrants from Mexico, Central America, Asia, Africa, and others who can’t return to their homeland. However, it will only apply to immigrants who arrived in the US before 2011.

Republicans oppose this proposal since they think it will create fewer low-wage job opportunities for American citizens. Democrats, on the other hand, want to make it into law since a Republican president can reject it in the future.
